Review: Smart Wireless Car Charging Mount for Your iPhone

The folks at Lynktec sent me their brand new Bolt Smart Car Mount & Qi Wireless Charger ($49.99.) I've reviewed several such products and they always fall short in one area or another. So I was pleasantly surprised to see the attention to detail in the Bolt.

First, the Bolt has a very cool and very useful robotic locking mechanism that locks and unlocks when the built-in infrared sensor detects your finger. Other mounts use mechanical buttons that clamp down on or release your phone as desired, but this offers a smooth, and even fun alternative. It does require power, so Lynktec built in a small battery. It might not seem like a big deal, but your car doesn't provide power to that port until you turn the car on, so the battery allows you to insert and remove your phone while your car is off!

Speaking of the 12 volt socket, the Bolt ships with a two-USB outlet adapter so you can use the second port for another device, and it does support Fast Charging. The included cable is high end as well, with a braided fabric and aluminum tips, and it uses USB-C to connect to the Bolt. These are nice enhancements that add to the quality feel. The mount accommodates large phones, even in a case, and rotates 360 degrees. A small vent clip is included and Lynktec charge $10 extra for a Dash and Windshield Mount, although those are included in a promotion, as I write this.

Pros

  • Robotic locking mechanism
  • Infrared sensor
  • Qi wireless charging
  • USB-C with braided cable
  • Dual USB port car charger
  • Battery allows opening and closing if car is off
  • Rotates 360 degrees

Cons

  • Dash and Windshield Mount sold separately

Final Verdict

The Bolt Smart Car Mount & Qi Wireless Charger from Lynktec adds all the right high-end touches and makes it almost fun to charge your phone in your car!
