How to Reset Your iPhone

If you have ever had an iPhone freeze, you know how frustrating it can be. With the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus it is even more frustrating because the solid state Home button refuses to do anything when the phone is frozen.

There is a very simple solution for resetting an iPhone. On the older versions of iPhone and iPod you need to press and hold the Home button and the Side button simultaneously. Hold both buttons down for at least ten seconds. You will see the white screen with a black Apple logo and then you can release the buttons.

This is called a force restart and will work to restart your iPhone or reset your iPhone when it doesn’t want to work or is freezing. If this isn’t working for you, maybe you are using an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus. Don’t worry, there’s a new method for that problem! Instead of holding the Home button and the Side button you need to hold the volume down button and the Side button for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo screen appears. This is the post on Apple’s website which has some great graphics if you are finding it difficult to find the right buttons on your device!

If these methods don’t work to fix your issues  you will want to check out this post about common issues and how to troubleshoot those problems with the iPhone and iPad!

How to Reset Your iPad and How to Restart Your iPad

When you need to reset your iPad or reboot your iPad, you follow the same procedure as above. You need to press and hold the Home button and the Side button at the same time for ten seconds until the Apple logo appears.

You can also restart your iPad by pressing the lock button until the slider appears. When the slider appears you can swipe to the right in order to shut off your device and then power it on again to complete the restart!

Using the force restart and the reset options for iPhone, iPad, and iPod makes it easier to navigate your devices when there is a glitch or a freeze. Now that our devices run mainly by touch it can be difficult to troubleshoot when that touch element ceases to work. This method does not remove any of your information or saved items. It simply forces a reset for the iPhone.
